Chat

Chat is your private messaging space with your partner - no ads, no algorithms, no distractions. It's designed specifically for couple communication.

Private messaging with your partner

Sending Messages

Text Messages

Type your message in the input field at the bottom of the screen and tap the send button. Messages support:

  • @mentions - Reference people, locations, tasks, events, and notes
  • Multiple lines - The input field expands as you type
  • Emojis - Use your device's emoji keyboard

Attachments

Tap the + button next to the message input to attach:

  • Camera - Take a photo directly
  • Photos - Select images from your photo library
  • Files - Attach documents (up to 50MB)

Photo and file messages appear as visual previews in the conversation.

Replying to Messages

Long press on any message to see options, then tap Reply. A preview of the original message appears above your input. Your reply will be linked to that message, making it easy to follow conversation threads.

Message Features

Read Receipts

You can see when your partner has read your messages. Read timestamps appear on messages once viewed.

Reactions

Long press on any message to add an emoji reaction. A quick reaction bar appears with 6 common emojis:

  • โค๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘ ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ข ๐Ÿ™

Tap any emoji to add it to the message. Tap the โž• button to see more options including: ๐Ÿ‘Ž ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Tap a reaction again to remove it. Both you and your partner can react to the same message.

Editing Messages

Long press on your own message and tap Edit to modify what you wrote. Edited messages show an "edited" indicator.

Deleting Messages

Long press on your own message and tap Delete to remove it. You can only delete messages you created; you cannot delete messages sent by your partner. You'll be asked to confirm before the message is deleted.

Drag to Reveal Timestamps

Drag messages horizontally to reveal exact timestamps:

  • Your messages - Swipe left to reveal timestamp on the right
  • Partner's messages - Swipe right to reveal timestamp on the left

The timestamp shows for 2 seconds, then automatically hides. This is useful for seeing precise timestamps on older messages without cluttering the view.

Chat Info

Tap the info icon in the chat header to access the Chat Info screen. This provides:

Partner Profile

See your partner's name and avatar at the top.

Search Tab

Search through all your messages to find specific conversations. Results are clickable and take you directly to that message in context.

Media Tab

Browse all photos and images shared in your conversations. Tap any image to view it full-screen or jump to it in the chat.

Files Tab

Browse all documents and files shared in your conversations. Tap to download or preview files.

Links Tab

Browse all links shared in your conversations. Links show previews where available. Tap to open in your browser or jump to the message containing the link.

Navigation

When you tap a search result, media item, file, or link from the Chat Info screen, the chat scrolls directly to that message and highlights it with a brief flash (2 seconds) so you can easily spot it in context.

This also works when navigating to a message from global search (outside of Chat Info) - the chat opens and scrolls to the specific message.

Using @Mentions in Chat

You can use @mentions in your messages to reference items in your shared account:

  • @person - Link to a saved contact (e.g., "@Mom")
  • @location - Link to a saved location (e.g., "@Target")
  • @task - Link to a task (e.g., "@Buy groceries")
  • @event - Link to an event (e.g., "@Date Night")
  • @note - Link to a note (e.g., "@Shopping List")

Type @ followed by a few letters to see matching suggestions. You can also use QQ as a quick keyboard shortcut to trigger the mention menu.

Privacy

  • All messages are private between you and your partner
  • Messages sync across your devices in real-time
  • No one else can see your conversations
  • Deleted messages are removed from both devices

Tips

  1. Use reactions for quick responses - A quick โค๏ธ or ๐Ÿ‘ is often better than typing "ok"

  2. Reply to keep context - When responding to a specific earlier message, use Reply to keep the thread clear

  3. Search when you can't find something - The search feature scans all messages, making it easy to find that restaurant recommendation from months ago

  4. Check Chat Info for shared content - Instead of scrolling back through the chat, use the Media, Files, or Links tabs to find what you're looking for

  5. Use @mentions for context - Instead of typing "check the grocery list," mention it directly with @Shopping List so your partner can tap to open it
